Acorn Stairlifts of Steeton has been nominated by Keighley and Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins as his Constituency Responsible Business Champion for 2016.

The nomination was endorsed by the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group and will be considered alongside companies nominated by other MPs for the National Responsible Business Champion Award 2016, which will be presented by Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Mr Hopkins said:

“It is essential that we recognise and celebrate the work that our local businesses do for and within the community.  That is why I was happy to nominate Acorn Stairlifts for this award and delighted that their nomination has been accepted by the committee.

“Across the constituency many of our businesses are regularly supporting the community, in terms of charitable gifts, employment, training and investment in the area.  It is always a pleasure to hear of these stories and I would encourage residents and businesses to write to me and highlight the good works that go on in Keighley and Ilkley.”

Acorn Stairlifts is one of the largest manufacturers of stairlifts in the worldOver the past five years, Acorn staff have raised more than £60,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and expect to raise more than £20,000 this year. During this time, Acorn has also installed 25 stairlifts free of charge for Manorlands patients in order that they may continue to live in the comfort of their own home for as long as possible.

A few months ago, Acorn installed a special bespoke stairlift for Airedale Enterprise Services in Keighley which provides facilities including training, access to funding and room hire for new and existing businesses, and is situated on the first floor without lift access.

Dave Belmont, Company Secretary at Acorn, said

“It was great news to hear that not only have we been nominated for this award, but that our nomination has been accepted.  This is a real endorsement of the work that Acorn and our staff do within the community.  Despite being a multinational company exporting to more than 80 countries, our roots are still firmly here in the Keighley area.

The national award winner will be announced in July.
