Acorn Stairlifts is delighted to have been shortlisted in two categories for the 2016 UK Private Business Awards.

Now in their sixth year, these prestigious national awards recognise success and achievement within the vast number of private businesses in the UK. Often referred to as "the Diamonds", they are presented to the UK's most successful private companies, entrepreneurs and management teams.

Each year the awards attract thousands of entries from across the UK, competing in 10 categories. Acorn Stairlifts has reached the final seven for the International Business of the Year Awards and the final six for the main Private Business of the Year Award.

Founded in 1992, Acorn Stairlifts remains a private family-owned company which now employs around 1,400 people worldwide. Our head offices and two factories are located in West Yorkshire, with another factory in Scotland. From these busy manufacturing plants our award-winning stairlifts are exported to 80 countries around the world.

We now manufacture more than 50,000 straight and curved stairlifts per year and have a UK-wide network of home surveyors and installers. In addition, Acorn has wholly owned subsidiaries operating in Ireland, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and in the USA, where we are the market leader for stairlifts. Few, if any, other UK companies have achieved this remarkable level of success in the USA.

Gordon Singer, from awards sponsor PwC, said: "The shortlist showcases the very best of the companies who have entered from across the country and recognises the fantastic achievements of entrepreneurs, their businesses and their teams. Privately owned businesses are the backbone of our economy, both locally and more widely across the UK. We are passionate about supporting and celebrating their successes.

"Our independent judging panel had an unenviable task during the voting process. All commented on the quality of the submissions and the passion, drive and stories behind the businesses which have made it to this stage."

A total of 10 Yorkshire-based businesses have reached this year's national shortlist, but Acorn is the only one featured in two categories and one of only two businesses nationally to "do the double".

Dave Belmont, Acorn Stairlifts company secretary, commented: "The whole team at Acorn is thrilled to have made it to the final shortlist in these two categories. They recognise both our success and continued growth as a UK private business and our achievements as a British manufacturer exporting its goods and operating in overseas markets."

The winners will be announced at a glittering Awards Evening taking place in London on Thursday September 15th.
