Why not make 2020 the year you conquer the stairs for good?

12:00am | & Lifestyle

Why soldier on when you can end the daily battle with your stairs today?

If declining mobility means that going up and down the stairs in your home is becoming a struggle, acting early can alleviate the pain and worry right now, and for the future. Unfortunately, as we grow older many of our abilities are no longer as sharp as they once were.

If our eyesight starts to deteriorate, we consult an optician and get prescription glasses which restore our ability to see clearly. If our hearing starts to fade, an examination by an audiologist can result in a small and discreet hearing aid which makes us once again much more alert to the sounds all around us. In both these cases, people will often remark that they didn’t realise how much their sight or hearing had deteriorated until it was restored.

But somehow, when our ability to move around with ease starts to slip away, we all too often accept it as an inevitable consequence of growing older. We just put up with the discomfort and get on with it – but it needn’t be that way.

Consulting your doctor can lead to a range of helpful therapies which can improve your mobility or at least slow its decline. These may take the form of regular medication, a structured programme of physiotherapy exercises or, in some cases, surgery to replace worn out joints.

As with all types of medicine, prevention is better than cure. Seeking medical advice early, as soon as you start to struggle with mobility, can mean the treatment you receive is far more effective for far longer. If you soldier on, waiting until you absolutely have to get help, your situation might already have become much worse than it needed to be.

Here at Acorn Stairlifts, one of the things we hear all too often from satisfied customers is: “I just wish I’d done it sooner!”

So many people soldier on long after their stairs have become a difficult and painful obstacle. We’ve had stories of people going up and down stairs on their bottoms or hauling themselves up by the bannister rail before they finally “give in” and get a stairlift. But why see it as “giving in” when in reality it’s taking a positive and sensible step to overcome a problem and improve your quality of life?

Just like getting glasses or a hearing aid, so many people don’t realise how much of a daily obstacle their stairs have become until that obstacle is suddenly removed. And that is exactly what an Acorn Stairlift does, enabling you to travel up and down stairs in comfort and safety at the push of a switch, whenever you want to.

It will give you back the full use and enjoyment of your home, effectively turning it into a bungalow by removing the need to climb stairs. Even if you think you could manage the stairs for a while longer, why waste your energy on struggling upstairs when there are so many better uses for it?

Some customers put off getting a stairlift because they think their stairs will be too narrow or awkward, but after more than 25 years in business there are very few situations we haven’t come across, and we have solutions for virtually all of them. Contact Acorn and one of our experienced home surveyors will be able to assess your stairs and your needs, and recommend the best type of stairlift for you and your budget. The surveyor’s visit is completely free and there is no obligation to buy, so you’ve really nothing to lose.

If you do decide to go ahead we can have one of our award-winning stairlifts installed and working in just a few days, even next day if urgency is paramount. Installation is simple and straightforward, with no need for messy and disruptive structural work.

So why not begin 2020 by taking a positive step to improve your quality of life for this year and many more to come.
