Acorn Stairlifts deliver simple cost-effective solutions

12:00am | & Tips and Advice

When you’re looking to buy a home stairlift, it’s easy to get bogged down by the wide array of different models from competing manufacturers and mobility retailers.

You’ll find various designs of stairlift rail, seemingly endless stairlift carriage options, “luxury stairlifts” available in a range of materials and finishes, or “new and unique” stairlift solutions. It can all become very confusing… and it really doesn’t need to be.

Yet the job of a stairlift is a straightforward one. It is to transport a person safely and comfortably up and down their stairs in their home, and keep doing it reliably for many years to come. At Acorn Stairlifts we firmly believe that simple, tried and tested, reliable and affordable solutions are the best. Finding these solutions has helped make Acorn a world leader in the manufacture, supply, speedy installation and expert maintenance of home stairlifts.

At Acorn Stairlifts we manufacture and supply just two main stairlifts models – the Acorn 130 for straight stairs and the Acorn 180 for curved stairs. Both types are adaptable for almost all staircase settings, but we don’t go in for other unnecessary frills and fancies. Our stairlifts come with everything you need and nothing you don’t – saving you money.

Both the Acorn 130 Straight Stairlift and Acorn 180 Curved are the product of more than 20 years’ stairlift evolution. Acorn has pioneered new technology, including using powerful rechargeable batteries so your stairlift will still work in a power cut. Our stairlifts’ ergonomic design and intuitive user-friendly controls have helped us become the first and only stairlift company awarded the Arthritis Foundation’s prestigious Ease of Use commendation.

The Acorn 130 is the ultimate stairlift solution for straight staircases. It uses a single light-but-strong and unobtrusive straight stairlift rail. It’s secured to the stairs, not the wall, so there’s no messy drilling into plaster and masonry and no need to redecorate after installation. The carriage which rides on the rail is practical and comfortable, using neutral tones chosen to blend easily with most home decors.

It has a full range of essential safety features and a diagnostic display panel which alerts you to any minor problems, such as the carriage not being ‘parked’ on its charging points. When not in use, the carriage arms, seat and footrest all fold up neatly, its slimline design making it easy for others to use the stairs, even on a narrow staircase.

Optional modifications make the Acorn 130 adaptable to almost all straight staircases. For example, if the bottom of the stairlift rail would protrude into a walkway and cause a trip hazard, it can be replaced with a short hinged rail section which can be folded up when not in use. The Acorn 130 is also available as a fully weatherproofed Outdoor Stairlift, and an Acorn 130 HD version with an uprated carrying capacity of up to 25 stones can be supplied for larger users.

The Acorn 180 Curved Stairlift has also set new standards. It uses a patented modular stairlift rail system which has slashed the waiting time for a curved stairlift from weeks to just days – even next day in exceptional cases. This extremely versatile ‘FastTrack®’ system relies on a parts library of interlocking stairlift rail sections which can be selected and assembled on site to create a bespoke curved stairlift rail in just a few hours.

Again, the single unobtrusive rail is fixed to the stairs, not the wall, and the stairlift carriage which rides on it shares all the same practical, ergonomic and safety features as our straight model. Like all our stairlifts, the Acorn 180 is supplied with two remote control handsets as standard, so it can be sent or summoned to where it’s needed.

Finally, for those who struggle to bend their knees we offer a modified carriage called the ‘Sit-Stand Stairlift’. As its name suggests, it allows the user to either sit or stand, using its robust additional handrails for extra support. It’s ideal for settings where the stairlift might have multiple users with differing needs, and the modifications to our existing stairlift carriage are simple and cost-effective.
