A group from Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts, a long-time supporter of Manorlands, has again won the award for the team that has raised the most money at the recent Big K 10K run/walk.

A team of five Acorn staff, captained by Senior Operations Manager Nick Wilson raised a record-breaking £9,000 for the Oxenhope hospice.

Nick Wilson and Acorn’s fund-raising co-ordinator Gill Smillie were presented with the trophy by Steve Seymour of sponsor Airedale Shopping Centre.

Senior Fundraiser for the Sue Ryder hospice Andrew Wood said: “Acorn Stairlifts has really come up trumps for us again breaking their own record for the most raised by one team of 5 people. In addition to their winning team, their other 30-plus participants have also raised a further thousand pounds or more.”

“Acorn and its staff have raised almost 20% of the total income for the Keighley BigK 10K. We are really grateful to the team at Acorn for their ongoing support and look forward to getting them involved with further events throughout the year.”

Team Captain Nick Wilson said: “This is the sixth year in which scores of Acorn staff have taken part in the Big K 10K. We are delighted to have a record breaking team in a year when the event itself raised a record total of £50,000 for Manorlands.”

“In 2015, Acorn raised £17,845 for Manorlands, and we hope to beat that amount this year,” Nick added.
