Acorn employee tackles Borneo challenge for Manorlands

12:00am & News

An Acorn employee is tackling her second major overseas expedition to raise money for a hospice.

Two years ago, Georgie Chester completed a punihsing Himalayan trek, raising nearly £6,000 for Manorlands. Now the 29-year-old putting on her hiking-boots again and heading to the Borneo rainforest.

The nine-day challenge, in October, will result in an ascent of 4,095-metre-high Mount Kinabalu.

Georgie, European job auditing manager for Acorn Stairlifts said "I don't do your average holiday! - I'm quite adventurous and when I'd completed the Himalayas it gave me a taste to do more.”

"Creepy crawlies scare me and I'm not particularly good with heights, so Borneo will be a real test, but I like taking on things that are difficult."

Georgie has to raise at least £4,000 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice and has set-up an online fundraising page, as well as staging a series of events. Georgie has also completed running events and a treadmill challenge to raise cash and other planned activities include supermarket bucket collections.

And she will be increasing her training to prepare physically for the expedition. "Before the Himalayas expedition I did a lot of hiking and I'll be doing more in the coming months, plus fell running. I've been into running now for five years and have done the Keighley BigK 10K for Manorlands with my work colleagues every year.”

"Acorn is a big supporter of the hospice, which is such a fantastic cause.
