Flying the flag for UK manufacturing

"Made in Britain" – three words which mean a great deal to Acorn Stairlifts.

We are proud that all our stairlifts are made here in the UK, exploiting the traditional engineering skills and high standards of craftsmanship and quality that helped make Britain great.

Although Acorn is now a truly multinational business – the market leader for stairlifts in the USA and exporting to 80 countries worldwide – all our stairlifts are designed, developed and manufactured at our factories in Yorkshire and Scotland.

Over the years we have won a number of awards recognising our success as a British manufacturer, and this week we are in the running for another. The 2016 Made in the UK Awards, organised by leading business publisher Insider Media, take place on Friday, June 17th, at a special gala awards ceremony in Liverpool.

Acorn Stairlifts is a finalist in the Advanced Manufacturer / Technology Award category, up against eight other finalists each representing their region of the UK. Acorn has already won the 2016 Made in Yorkshire Award to reach this week's national finals.

"Regardless of the outcome on Friday night, we're very honoured to have reached the national finals in such a prestigious competition, and against such strong competition," said Acorn Stairlifts company secretary Dave Belmont.

"We take great pride in helping to fly the flag for British manufacturing. People are too quick to say that British industry is dead, when in fact there are some great manufacturing success stories out there which deserve to be shouted from the rooftops. The fact that our British-made stairlifts are the market leader in America says a lot about the excellence of UK engineering and technology."

Up to 600 manufacturers are expected to attend Friday's Made in the UK awards dinner, which is preceded by a daytime conference held in association with the Government's UK Trade and Investment department (UKTI). The awards dinner is also the finalé to Manufacturing Week – the first of three weeks which together comprise the 2016 International Festival for Business.

Acorn has enjoyed previous success at the Made in the UK awards. As well as winning this year's Made in Yorkshire Award in the Advanced Manufacturer / Technology category, we were the national winner of the 2015 Export Award after first winning the Yorkshire region Export Award.
